YCF retains Ba league title

The Dayals Steel YCF team from Ba has qualified for the Fiji Football Association National Club Championship after winning Ba Football Association local league competition.

YCF defeated 4R Electrical 2-1 in the final. YCF boasts players such as tveteran Aisea Codro, Malakai Tiwa, Junior Balbir Singh, Sanaila Waqanicakau, Shanil Narayan and Aman Singh who are also Ba representatives.

The 4R Electrical team had the services of Darold Kakasi, Samuela Drudru, Ilimotama Jese, Epeli Codro, Daniel Krishneel and Savenaca Nakalevu. In the semi-final, YCF defeated AC Milan 4-0.

YCF co-coach Shalen Lal said with the help of Marshall Ali they were able to groom a formidable team to win the Ba FA local league title back to back.

“We started this club three years ago and have maintained our development strategy,” Lal said.

“In first year our aim was just to qualify for the NCC play-offs since there were two spots for the affiliate associations.

“But we were fortunate to go on to win the NCC title on the first attempt.

“We are happy to win the Ba local league title for two years in a row. We have many young players from the under-16 age group level in the team for development purposes and are grateful to our major sponsor to Pranesh Dayal for supporting the team together with Ranji Lal.”

In 2018, YCF defeated fellow Ba club Nailaga 1-0 in the final to win the NCC title at the Fiji FA Academy ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

Tiwa proved to be the hero for YCF scoring the winner on the stroke of halftime.
